“Wonderful Location! The Muskoka of Grand Cayman”
From the Bensons new owners of Starboard Kai before they bought
Starboard Kai.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first stay at the Island Houses in
November 2012 and equally enjoyed our week in January 2013. The
easiest way to book is through Cayman Kai Vacations online as
they are very helpful and provide assistance when needed.
Location: The Island Houses are located in Cayman Kai, across
from Rum Point Beach on the north shore of Grand Cayman. The 45
minute drive from the airport takes you away from the busy Seven
Mile Beach area and provides an excellent location for a
relaxing vacation. Especially suitable for two couples or a
family of four, the Island Houses are situated, in a semi
circle, directly on a sand-rimmed, palm-lined cove, perfect for
kayaking with easy access to the ocean (a 5 minute paddle).
Steps away, out the front door, is Rum Point Beach (directly
across the street). This beautiful beach, featuring the famous
dock, provides a wonderful spot to swim, snorkel and go for long
walks. You can also head off from here for a visit to Stingray
City and Sandbar - a must do activity for any trip to Grand
Cayman. A number of other excursions, such as the sunset cruise,
are also available.
Accommodation: Each of the 18 "Island Houses of Cayman Kai" is a
privately owned villa. They are decorated according to the
individual owners' tastes, so the best advice is to review them
online and find the one best suited to your liking. Each "Island
House" is a two story, two bedroom, three bathroom (two are
ensuite) home complete with fully appointed kitchen, living and
dining room and a large two-story lanai (screened-in porch).
This is where you will want to spend your time when indoors - it
is a wonderful space.
A number of the "Island Houses" have kayaks for their guests to
enjoy (some also have bicycles). Snorkel equipment is available
to purchase or rent across the street at Rum Point (we chose to
bring our own). There is a lovely pool, with a great view of the
cove, for the exclusive use of "Island House" guests. We often
found we had the pool all to ourselves.
Amenities: In addition to those already mentioned, the "Island
Houses" come fully equipped, including bedding, beach towels,
etc. Most evenings we opted to enjoy our surroundings and the
BBQ at our villa but there are a couple of lovely restaurants in
the neighborhood (Kaibo is a good walk /short drive, another is
directly across the street at Rum Point). Kaibo has both a fine
dining restaurant (upstairs) and more casual fair on the beach
(downstairs). Each Friday closest to the full moon Kaibo hosts a
wonderful dinner on the beach (reservations a must). They also
hold other Caribbean style evenings - be sure to check their
calendar online.
Other tips: Be sure to rent a car by reserving ahead of time.
Once accustomed to driving on the left, which takes no time at
all, Grand Cayman is quite easy and safe to navigate and a
wonderful island to explore. Although you may not want to leave
Cayman Kai and Rum Point, there are many other fabulous beaches
and sites to see. If you are into scuba or snorkeling Grand
Cayman is spectacular! George Town is a great place to wander
about and of course enjoy a drink on the wharf after some duty
free shopping.
Getting there: As we are flying from Canada, our most direct and
cost effective choices are Air Canada and West Jet. Both offer
more than one flight a week in "high season".

February 2013, traveled as a couple
Hi Bob,
Home from our fabulous vacation at Cayman Kai and I
just wanted you to know how much we loved our stay.
The island house was perfect and really nicely done.
The location right on the beach was wonderful, and Rum
Point was such a nice beach.
Everything in the house was so well done and ready
for us, including the water foot bath out the back. The
kitchen was really well stocked with cooking gear.
We loved the big porch and large windows.
The location is a bit far from most restaurants, but
we did love Kaibo - wish we had known about the full
moon dinner....next time !
Mitzi was great - she stopped in our second day and
was kind enough to make Christmas reservations for us at
The Grand Old House , where we had an exceptional
dinner. She was a gem. She even drove us to town one
day when the buses weren't running and my husband and
son had taken the car to go diving in town. I offered to
pay for gas, but she declined.
I have just forwarded the website to a friend of
mine here in Portland who is looking for a warm weather
vacation this winter, so you may hear from him.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year.

“Lovely condo, Ideal Location”
We were in Starboard Kai #4. It had just been remodeled and
everything was beautiful and of the highest quality. The
condo was stocked with soap, dishwasher detergent and
laundry detergent, which is not always the case when one
rents a vacation condo. There are also bikes and kayaks to
use. The beach is just steps away from the front door, and
the screened porch in back, facing the cove, is a great
place to relax. The pool is private and never crowded. Bob
and Mitzie, the managers of the rentals, were so helpful and
easy to work with. We thought we might have to stay an extra
night because of a snow storm back home, and they worked to
find a spot for us in another condo. Walter and the other
guys at Red Sail sports were also super nice, helping us
with the Stingray city tour, wave runner rental, and snorkel
gear. This is a great place for a family vacation. You can
alternate between eating out and cooking at home. There's
wifi and cable for the kids. Plenty to do or just hang out
and relax!
Room Tip: There's no grocery store nearby, so
stock up on your way in from the airport.

“Wonderful
accommodations at Starboard Kai No.4. Right on the
beach, pool, everything brand new.”
Starboard Kai No. 4 has recently been completely
renovated and is truly exquisite. You will find it
fully equipped for all your requirements the only
things to pick up coming from the airport are
groceries and drinks. Being a senior the proximity
of the pool, ocean, as well as the local restaurants
was most attractive. There are also available bikes
and ocean kayaks and all that Rum Point offers. The
pool area is lovely and the grounds surrounding are
beautifully kept, right down to the removal of
over-hanging coconuts. Everything inside is brand
new and the kitchen is a joy to work in, granite
counters, stainless steel appliances all that one
requires. We ate most meals on the screened in lanai
with a wonderful view of the lagoon. I hope everyone
enjoys it as much as I did.
Room Tip: There is no fitness centre,
restaurant and/or room choice, this being a
Island House complex.

Starboard Kai is just lovely - so nicely
decorated and so comfortable. Love the two

We enjoyed the pool, the beach across the road
and many others including Starfish Point which
we essentially had to ourselves. We snorkelled,
did a night kayak to check out the
bioluminescence and lots of beach walking.
Visited the Botanical Gardens one day which we
really enjoyed and had fabulous meals at a
variety of restaurants. I think our favourite
was Kaibo both upstairs and the more casual
beach bar down below. As you had mentioned,
fabulous pizza!
Never made it to Morritts or Tukka and while we
saw several stingrays, we didn't do the Stingray

It really was a wonderful holiday from start to

Thanks again. You should be so proud of that

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful
condo for a week in January 2014 and it was
simply wonderful. It’s a luxurious
semidetached home on the ocean with all the
comforts of being at home plus the luxury of
staying in a top end hotel. It’s close to
several restaurants and activities and
anything you need is a stone’s throw away.
We relaxed by the pool, we snorkeled by the
dock right near our place and had a blast!
Starfish point is only a 5 minute drive from
the house and it makes for a fun and
relaxing day at the beach.
We will definitely be going back, it is the
perfect place to relax and enjoy a hassle

What a wonderful place. This was our first time to Grand Cayman. We chose the Rum Point area after friends told us how much they loved it--and they were right. Luckily we chose Starboard Kai as our "home away from home". It is ideally situated at the end of a cove, famous for the night bio-luminescence display (people pay $50 CI to see) that you get to witness every night while kayaking through the waters with one of the 3 kayaks (one double) made available by the owners. On the other side (out the front door), you cross a quiet, small street and you are on the beach at Rum Point. Check out the site for all the fun things to do.
Starboard Kai has just been totally renovated with great taste and all the amenities. The owners are so thoughtful. Everything you need to make you comfortable is there-from guide maps and info books, a well appointed kitchen, to a comfortable lanai to relax in. It is obvious that the owners have paid attention to details and it shows, not only in the beautiful decor, but the relaxing, ahaaa, feeling you get as soon as you walk in the door.
There are even flat screen Tv's in every bedroom and the family room to keep children and Olympic events addicted husbands happy!
A wonderful place to start exploring all Grand Cayman and Rum Point has to offer.
There is lots to do. From snorkelling off Rum Point Beach (I swam with a a Hawksbill tortoise, saw a stingray, a lion fish and lots of other reef fish), to kayaking to Starfish Point (amazing big beautiful orange starfish), diving, visiting local sites (Turtle Farm, Car Museum) and walking 7 Mile Beach. Check out Stingray City.
We can't wait to come again. Read more
Thank-you so much for your very positive review! After all of our hard work to renovate Starboard Kai it is very rewarding to receive such praise. I was fortunate enough to vacation here in January and enjoyed every minute of it. Everything has been done with exquisite taste. You will find it fully equipped with all your requirements other than groceries and drinks. Being a senior the proximity of the beach, pool and local restaurants was most attractive. For younger vacationers there would be the bikes, kayaks, lovely walking and all that Rum Point provides, not that there would not be seniors that would enjoy these also. The pool area is lovely and very quiet and the surrounding grounds are very well kept, even to removing the overhanging coconuts. Everything inside is brand new and wonderful to use even down to the can opener.I would recommend this rental for a truly wonderful vacation.

We were in Starboard Kai #4. It had just been remodeled and everything was beautiful and of the highest quality. The condo was stocked with soap, dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent, which is not always the case when one rents a vacation condo. There are also bikes and kayaks to use. The beach is just steps away from the front door, and the screened porch in back, facing the cove, is a great place to relax. The pool is private and never crowded. Bob and Mitzie, the managers of the rentals, were so helpful and easy to work with. We thought we might have to stay an extra night because of a snow storm back home, and they worked to find a spot for us in another condo. Walter and the other guys at Red Sail sports were also super nice, helping us with the Stingray city tour, waverunner rental, and snorkel gear. This is a great place for a family vacation. You can alternate between eating out and cooking at home. There's wifi and cable for the kids. Plenty to do or just hang out and relax!
Room Tip: There's no grocery store nearby, so stock up on your way in from the airport.

We stayed at this condo in November 2013. The renovations had just been completed and the place is outstanding!
The main floor kitchen is completely upgraded and the lanai provides a wonderful setting for early morning coffee overlooking the cove. The two bedrooms upstairs are large and each have great washrooms attached.
The condo comes with multiple kayaks and bikes which we made use of everyday. Cycling to Starfish Point and kayaking around the cove were great ways to see all the beautfiul island has to offer. The condo pool is also a great place for an afternoon or evening dip.
We really enjoyed the location of the condo - being steps from the action of Rum point was fantastic - the beach is pristine and a great place for some snorkeling. We walked down the beach to the end point and spent a lot of time there completely alone taking in the sun and scenary.
Nearby there are maybe great restaurants - you must check out "Over the Edge" - we went 3 times in one week!
The only downside is it is a little far from the night life in Seven Mile beach and Georgetown but there are many things to do at night at Kaibo bar or Rum Point.
I would not hesitate to recommend this condo for a wonderful relaxing vacation with your family or friends - we are already booked in for another week next year.
